For reducing bulk I am pressing my seams open. I use a very small stitch when paper piecing, 2.0 on my Viking, so that it is secure and tears easily. I am using Carol Doak (sp) paper I ordered online for another project. I'm going to need more though. What is the vellum like? The paper I have is pretty thin and tears easily, not in a bad way.

i always worry about recommending products - just because i like it doesn't mean it works for everyone else.

i remember the first time i used it - i knew i would never use anything else again.

i got 2 reams in the mail yesterday - no tax no shipping - can't beat that.

the paper is actually called Neenah Paper UV/Ultra II 17 Weight in Radiant White.

the paper tears away with total ease and i like that you can see thru the paper.

Well, the term was really derogatory used for the very poor folks that came out to CA during the drought, in the 20's. Reading about Tom Joad, I decided they deserved way more respect that to be called names...what hardships they endured, and what discrimination and degradation they went thru living here in the valley in CA. Very sad story. So, I don't like using the term...

If your paper is a bit thick, try this trick. Unthread your sewing needle on your machine and then go over each of the lines. This will perforate the paper, making it easier to rip out once you've actually sewn it. It can take a bit of extra time but it's so worth it! I do this to all my paper piecing projects and it's really made a difference. I use regular copier paper, which can be a bit thick when compared to vellum, but I haven't had a single problem since perforating the paper first and then going back and sewing everything together. Hope this helps!

I have the Carol Doak pp paper. I like the vellum so much better
